Book 22 The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

This is a good example of why one should always read the book before watching the film. The Remains of the Day is an excellent novel, but my reading of it was completely coloured by my experience of seeing it at the movies, even though that was nearly twenty years ago. Every scene, every phrase of dialogue was seen in my mind’s eye as being played out by Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Edward Fox et al. So while it is a lovely book, and it really is, the reading of it fell a bit flat for me.

But don’t let that put anyone off reading it. And if you have read it, watch the film as well.
